Nikon 1 V1 Images from Tanzania

I was fortunate enough to be able to take a Nikon 1 V1 camera with me to Tanzania this November to test out. B&H Photo and Video provided the test camera that included the Nikon 1 V1, 10mm f2.8, 10-30mm zoom and 30-110mm zoom. I’m currently writing an in-depth summary of my experience with the [...]

November in Tanzania

Just back from a few weeks in Tanzania with the Nikonians Academy. Our 11 intrepid explorers had an incredible journey through Northern Tanzania. We took lots of great images of the usual suspects (lion, hyena, cheetah, etc.), but I wanted to show a bit of a different side of Tanzania with this post. Tanzania has [...]

Under Tanzanian Skies

I love the sky in Tanzania.  The daily afternoon thunderstorms almost alway guarantee some type of dynamic light that begs to be captured by your camera. It is easy to point your camera towards the heavens, but the challenge is to find a way to juxtapose wildlife or an austere landscape underneath those dramatic skies. This [...]

The Nikonian eZine #49

Nikonians just published eZine #49. We included a few of my images to illustrate our Nikoknians Academy trips, adventures and workshops around the world.

Mt. Kilimanjaro in Sepia

Mt. Kilimanjaro above the town of Moshi, Tanzania. November, 2010. I took the image with my Nikon D700 and 24-70mm f2.8 lens during one of my African Safari trips. In the computer, I processed it Photoshop CS5 using ACR, Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 Polarizer and Nik Silver Efex Pro Sepia conversion.

Giant Elephants of Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is one of the world’s most fascinating ecosystems. In a relatively small area, you can find just about every animal species endemic to East Africa. There are a few missing animal types such as giraffe, but almost everything else is represented, from birds to cheetah to hippos. Some of my favorite [...]

Animal photography at the Triple D Game Farm

Last week’s Nikonians Academy photo shoot with the Triple D Game Farm was an incredible amount of fun. The weather was perfect and the animals were stunning. What an amazing privilege to be able to photograph these majestic animals in beautiful surroundings.
Here’s a sampling of a few of the shoots.

Two wonderful days in Yosemite

Our photography group took a break from photographing wildlife models in Mariposa and headed over for some amazing photography in Yosemite National Park. The light was stunning and we came away with some incredible landscape images. Enjoy.
